"Field goal" thru me off, but it actually is that in basketball too - just never hear it called that. Always a "3-pointer".

The 3 pointer was first used professionally during the 1967-68 season of the ABA. Some fans may remember that the Nuggets, Pacers, Spurs and Nets were originally members of the ABA, not the NBA. My favorite ABA team was the San Diego Conquistadors with Wilt Chamberlain as a player/coach simultaneously.

Player #33995708, Actually, all shots in basketball are called "field goals" whether it be a 2-point or a 3-point. Not just a football term.
