What team won the 1994 World Series?
Correct answer: The world series was canceled

Java Man
I have not watched a baseball game since. If they don't care about the fans, why should the fans care about them?

Gary
I think money is spoiling all sports these days. players like Doctors think only of the money!!

Player #40278440
Gary, Take 1/8 of their salary and give to our teachers and first responders. Allow them to make a decent wage.

GruffSecretAgent9936
...well, that goes to show you how much I follow major league baseball...

Timster
Gary,
As a healthcare provider, Doctors don’t always think only of the money. By and large it is the administrative side that is concerned with metrics, money and manipulating providers, to do more with less.

Micro
Java Man, agree, too much money

Bonnie
Player #mimi2157, I agree 100%! Politics doesn’t belong in sports! What a bad example to set for a generation already in trouble. It was fun when it was “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Chevrolet & Apple Pie!”

Organic Dude
Timster, I am a Medical Doctor and not a “healthcare provider” but I agree with you!

Organic Dude
Player #40278440, Amen to that. Teachers need to be paid much more and First Responders have a tough job.

Wisenheimer
Now that really, really burned me up! I still haven't forgiven or forgotten that. I would still watch games every once in awhile but the thrill was gone. The worst thing that they could ever have done.

JLAW
Gary, The fans keep buying the tickets...

JLAW
Gary, The problem is the FANS!

antzuzu
Java Man, me too pretty much. Though I have attended a few games in person... for the food and company of course. Go Nats!

PaseoF
Organic Dude, then just as a patient. You doctors should supervise, your administrative team. And pay attention to detail.

Chris
Gary, Generalizing. How many doctors do you know? I worked as an RN in 3 US states and 4 countries outside of the US. I worked with many, many doctors and in those 48 years. I met very few physicians who, “only thought of the money.”

the world series was never postponed prior to that season even major wars back in the day couldn't cancel the world series during both WW1 and WW11 baseball managed to make it happen even though the baseball games back in the Jim Crow days weren't the same thing as modern baseball games since they didn't allow black baseball players to play with the white players but they still managed to crown a champion at the end of the season something that didn't happen during the 94 season

Java Man,
same here I was a Oakland As fan back in the day when I used to follow baseball but after the world series was canceled I gave up on watching baseball. billionaires vs millionaires and unfortunately the ones left out in the cold are the fans and the sad thing about MLB the other major league sports franchises didn't learn the lesson from MLB cause if my memory is correct the NHL shortly went on strike and ended up canceling the playoffs which ended up being a bad decision after they came back

Lionessa
Player #40278440, Socialism is just so easy, isn't it? Just rob Peter to pay Paul. Except, of course, you don't get a vote under Socialism, and all property is seized by the state. The Utopian Fantasy that is Socialism gets one bit right: we'll all have the same amount of stuff. We'll all have nothing.

Lionessa
Top pay for American medical doctors is $250,000 to $300,000/yr. That's chump change to top-paid athletes, four of whom are billionaires.

Julia
Baseball really did not come out the same after the strike. The game went from the national pastime to another sporting event. the crowds really never came back to the stadiums.
The players are not always millionaires on signing. Many are working two or three jobs, especially in the minor leagues. Baseball is like most sports; the elite get high salaries, but the rank and file get bubkes (peanuts, nothing, low wages).

Barb@71
Player #40278440, Can't single out just one sport. Maybe all professional sports.

Tina M.
I agree that athletes get way too much money! What's so bad is that fans are willing to pay so much, and some of them do without real necessities.

Vic
Java Man, Same here, I don’t watch them either,

Mary Kowalski
Timster, they're not drs - they're business men who are under pressure from "above" and, for this 70 year old, I don't go to drs
because they have no time to listen any more and its like being treated like sick cattle going to slaughter. I haven't been to dr for 3 yrs now, since C19!

Trish
Why do we pay athletes more than our teachers, counselors, bus drivers etc.? It’s one of the most boring games ever. Statistically I read that there’s only about 11 minutes of actual activity and most ball games. I can’t stand watching it.

Player #2512936
It is amazing what these players are paid! Some of their behaviors are atrocious!

Player #1081396
Dajulimaso, baseball
