Nigel S P, It was demoted as a planet when it was realised that it was just one among very many others, some as big as, or bigger than Pluto that are in the Kyper belt..(I'm not sure that I've spelt that correctly.) It's not its size that defines it. If it was alone in that orbit with or without moons orbiting it, it would still be defined as a planet.
