I do not like this term as it sounds derogatory. I travelled thru Turpes. The people were friendly and welcoming AND warm-hearted. Other than current political unrest, I recommend goingkey and loved its fascinating and breathtaking sites encompassing various religions - or just simply beautiful landsca there on vacation. It truly is NOT scary at all. The mediteranean- style food is great too!!!

Turkey had a "Sick Man" in "Midnight Express". That sadistic guard who beat and tortured the prisoners.

SneakyMole92698., At the time the phrase was coined the Ottoman empire had large territories in eastern Europe, particularly the Balkans. It lost them when it picked the losing side in WW1 and renamed itself Turkey. Actually, Turkey still has a little bit of territory in Europe, half of its capital, Istanbul, is in Europe.
