dollis1963, we need a certain amount of sun exposure. you'll find a few years down the track the medical profession will be telling us they were wrong about covering up all the time in the sun, like they were wrong about eggs, full fat dairy, which they now say protects the heart! take what 'experts' say with a pinch of salt!

JonboysTrivia, read a little bit more dear. Autoimmune disorders which are linked to vitamin D deficiencies, like multiple sclerosis, are found at increased rates the farther you get from the equator and in those with decreased sun exposure. (It only takes 10-15 minutes of sunlight a day to increase vitamin D production, which is not enough for most people to burn or to increase their risk of skin cancer.)

I live in New Zealand. half an hr in sun WITH NO SUNBLOCK= REALLY BAD SUNBURN and eventually an increased risk in melanoma. you can still absorb vitamin D with the use of sunscreen. Vitamin D also helps reduce depression. #everything in proportion

I wonder if there's an effective treatment option for those with conditions that prevent exposure to natural sunlight i.e. severe skin conditions, extreme autoimmune deficiencies, even extreme cases of anxieties and phobias that might prevent one from going outside or sitting near a window?

This explanation is far too opinionated, you can wear sunscreen but also can wear protection like hats and clothes and ovoid harmful rays but still absorb vitamin D. When you go to very hot countries people take sun stroke very seriously and ovoid the hot sun if they can. I’m from the UK but know it’s become a stereotype of us British, as soon as it gets really hot we go out in shorts and nothing else and get sun burnt. In very hot countries it’s more normal to cover up in long sleeved white clothes and head scarves - well the hot countries I’ve been to anyway.

Vit D is in fact a hormone. Please don't be afraid to supplement if you are deficient. Take large doses of vit D with K2mk7 (prevents calcium deposits in arteries and kidneys), supplememt Magnesium as well as a lot of it is used up by the body to convert vit D. Take D after a meal with a spoon of good oil (it's oil soluble). And by large doses I mean 10000-20000 IU for a couple of months. Don't listen to the doctors, there has been thousands of trials and researches on vit D and it's proven to be safe and crucial for our body to function

The vitamin D doesn't actually come from the sun's rays but you do need the sun to help your body process and use the vitamin D you get from food.
