I was brought up with hot soapy water ..elbow grease and sunshine as a surefire remedy for germs...and after I boil the kettle I always pour leftover water on my sponges without fail...i rarely use chemicals and manage ok 😊

I can't believe so many people are giving hints on how to sanitize rags and sponges yet washing out with soap and water as you would with laundry is not brought up. need to learn some simple hygiene people.

[bobbo16], I do this and never had my microwave stink. Then I use the super hot damp sponge to wipe out the microwave. It easily cleans any dried food splatter that was softened by microwaving the wet sponge.

I run mine through the dishwasher. I use a wire type scrubber and a scrubber type sponge. Hot wash and hot dry. Seems to do the job.
