A hundredweight in 100 base units or pounds . A hundredweight is 8 stones . A stone is 14 pounds . A hundredweight is therefore 8 x 14pounds or 112 pounds . For those unfamiliar with the imperial measurements, 20 hundredweight make 1 ton of 2240 pounds . The metric ton or tonne is 1000 kilograms of 2.2 pounds or 2200 pounds . This is why it is also called a short ton.
