Correct answer: Japan

Mike T
What happens when a child turns 4? Not much fun at the birthday party, I'm guessing!

Ken
would not have guessed, except for Mt. fuji in the picture

Alexander
Thanks for the graphics. It helps!

addam
Mike T,
also what happens if a person is born on the 4th or on a day that has a 4 in it

Player #118103951
It's the same thing in China. Their word for four and death are almost identical. So four is bad luck in China as well.

J
Four goodness sake! Different cultures different numbers for Great Britain it’s 13, I thought it was to do with the mountain! Kabiyesi I was born on 04 04 so I also love number 4!!!!

Mark V
When I was working in China, I went to buy a smartphone, they asked me what number I'd like to have if it was available, I said
" 444-444-4444" everyone behind the counter stopped working and looked at me in horror...too funny!

Player #23884055
So impractical! They should rename the number.

Kabiyesi
I love 4. My birthday is 4 Sepetember

Heather
Mike T, this is a very good question.

Rick
Do they all stay in bed on 4th April?

Rick
Feel sorry for a child born 4/4/2021. It will be 4 this year.

Andi
It's just like Stevie Wonder said in his song "Superstition." When u believe in things u don't understand, then u suffer. Superstition ain't the way.

Andi
Ken, that's right! Big, beautiful Mt. Fuji

Wozza
Id say far more prevalent in China than Japan ! Lots of Hotels wont have a 4th floor - alternatively 8 is the lucky number !

Ronniegirl
wow I'm glad I don't live in Japan or China my birthday is July 4th

Xtine
J, my boyfriend’s dad was born 4/14/44. He was born 4/4/68.

Talaith
if it means death, then who chose it to mean four?

BrainTek
just as apparently "Paris syndrome" is supposedly more likely to happen in Japanese citizens and more commonly in women

Филозоф
This is more true for China, in Japan they use also yon and yotsu for four/th. So it's more of an imported fear since it came from the use Chinese characters

Alexander, 😄

nour
imagine being born on the 04/04/2004 the parents would freak out

Timbo USN (Ret.)

SmartMouth

Maubi

betty
Mt Fuji not a clue? Is this only for us old people?

bigdawg
Mike T, probable even worse when shi turns four

Jams24
Its in most of Asia. I live in SE Asia and there is no number 4 on elevators, no 4th floor. Number 4 does not exist here, lol

Me
Mike T, guess ya go from 3 straight to 5 lol

CYNCY
Mike T, yes what will happen. 😂. maybe turning 5

Player #116605072
Isn’t it the same in Chinese ? I live in Singapore & 4 has the same meaning?

jc
Zooman, china and other asian countries you are considered 1 yr old at birth, so skipping 4th birthday would make them equal in age

Mervyn
Trish, or add a ficticious one.

Zooman
Mike T, they go from 3 - 5 yrs old, just like that. Lol

Trish
So if it’s someone’s fourth anniversary of their marriage, do they skip it? What if you have had four jobs? Do you skip putting one on there? I’d like to have more information.

Curiously, I'm playing a number game in wich the eights are all missing. For example: 9+9=19, etc... First I thought it was an error but now I'm starting to think that it may be something related to a superstition . By the way, I live in the number 13, former section 84...😉

Isabella
Excuse me, I was born on July 4th!

Black
They usually say 'yon' instead of 'shi' I think
