I never got into horror, but I enjoyed the giant monster films as a kid - ants, scorpions, and the giant mantis that climbed up the Washington monument. I loved science, so the themes of radiation mutated creatures, etc. seemed cool. So did all of the military bombing and shelling, but it was usually scientists who figured out how to stop the monster - at least until the next movie.

EricHahnNo1, my brother and I both watched Big Monster movies. Do u know he even looked up to see what animal sounds they used to make Godzilla sound effects? Let me see if I can remember: it was a lion, an elephant, and some other animal.

Jim, The original didn’t feature Raymond Burr. That’s the Americanized remake of the original. The original is all Japanese. I watched it on TCM with subtitles.

The original was just on METV this morning with Raymond Burr.
