12 years a slave... was so deep and so dark compared to what i thought a freedmans life was like... I never knew that freedom was so loosely taken away... freedom is not free..

PanhandleGuy the blacks you speak of were free born creole s or other people of color. All nation's/nationalities have used others in various degrees, it didn't make it right whomever did it!

I, myself, have never seen "12 Years a Slave." Is it any good?

MALICE, Agree. No use wasting 3+ hours just to see a minute here and there of a witty host's comments, and the awards list is on the news the next morning anyway.

Peggy
I used to watch them, but I lost interest years ago.

The Oscars is usually pretty boring. I tune in for the last half hour to see who won the major awards.
If you'd like to see a great award show, watch The Tony Awards. Hugely entertaining, with live scenes from the nominated Broadway shows.

I love the awards show!

Diesel
I do watch the Academy Awards most years. Usually I see the films after the awards are over. I understand why the made their picks. I had read the book, " Twelve Years A Slave" so did not watch the movie. The book was gripping and fantastic.
