What is the reason that Mercury has no moons?

Fun fact, Mercury despite being the closest to the sun, isn’t the hottest planet in the solar system. Venus is.

Mercury is pretty much just the core of the planet it once was. It was once much larger and much further out from the Sun but was flung in towards the Sun by gravitational forces and it collided with another large protoplanet, causing it to lose most of its outer layers. It's had a hard time, poor little planet!
