Who played the main role of Thomas Sullivan Magnum IV in the American TV series "Magnum, P.I."?

I love this show. I never watch the new one but this is my favorite show of all time. it was funny it had great characters and I was in love with Tom Selleck.

wasn't he 1st choice to play Indiana Jones??
