After chewing on some very hard antacids, I began having a bad toothache and thought it was a cracked tooth. The dentist could not find anything wrong with my tooth. He sent me to a specialist who also said my tooth looked healthy. This pain lasted for over 2 years and then suddenly went away on its own.

Sounds similar to phantom limb pain that amputees get. It has something to do with the way nerve endings map to our brain, so that even when you shorten those nerves by amputation, pain registers as existing in something that no longer exists.

I had pain for over a year in a tooth that had a root canal. The dentist said that was impossible but I guess not. Finally went away.
