Which American entrepreneur developed the assembly line technique of mass production?

This is often asked like this but said to wrong. Ford developed the moving assembly line, where the car moved along the line. But I remember watching a documentary where the assembly line was at least forty years older. Because the US civil war, north built the Springfield rifle on an assembly line. I only have the one source though.
