What happens if lightning strikes an airplane?

Player #110421376, A relative of mine was in a plane that lightning went through it, probably before they had these safety features. Also our family was in an airplane in 1974, when another plane went down in a thunderstorm.

Engineers should capture the electricity to power cars and certainly 1 city at a time

It's very relieving to know that if you're forty thousand feet up in an aluminum can in pitch black darkness in a raging thunder and lightning storm, that a direct hit by lightning will move along the aluminum shell or the conductive fibers of a non conductive composite plane. I absolutely would not want to go through what William Shatner did in that Twilight Zone episode.

These days I do nit trust anything… including lighting

Player #114676750, this is the 2nd time I've come across this question and I finally got it right the 1st time I too thought that something bad happens during a thunderstorm now if they can design planes to avoid birds w/o having to kill them and damaging the plane
