gobledygook, If you are talking about Da Vinci's design, it was designed with the theoretical bicycle pedal design, which of course wasn't realistic as the flyer would have to rest their legs at some point!
Also, it would have needed to be able to overcome the weight of the machine, as well as the person flying it!

Davy, Livingston, he didn't invent a helicopter. He theorised about their possibility and drew up rudimentary designs. However I believe that none his designs could have worked as he had no way of powering it - the invention of any form of engine was a good 200 years away
