Sorry to burst your bubbles all us American football fans (and hey, I am from the American midwest) but as you have been able to see right here that the following of American football pales in comparison to futbol, or soccer as we call it. So we Americans need to expand our interests just a bit, and become a little more integrated into the world.

Diver Dan, In virtually every country football is extremely popular - because thats what virtually every country calls it - football, not soccer or 'soccer football'.

Here's some extra trivia for those who are interested. When Li Na played in the final of the women's French Open, that match also beat the Superbowl viewing stats. Quite amazing!

Heartland Old Guy, soccer is football. For that matter, any ball game not played on a horse is football. Look it up.

I'm an American who watched the World Cup live but DVR'd the Superbowl... so I could fast-forward through the game, watch the commercials & catch the final score... I'd rather watch curling. (Glad I put my money on the under!!! 😉)

All that being said, Americans are very active and loyal fans of the teams we support in what ever sport they are participating in, from high school up to the professional level. That might be where we differ from the rest of the world. We do not limit ourselves to just follow only a couple of sports. Personally, I enjoy the world cup of soccer, football, baseball, basketball, volleyball (both court and beach), skiing, figure skating, gymnastics, horse racing, track and field, and hockey, just to name a few of my sports interests. I think most Americans would say the same thing.
