Which one of these sauropods means "Double beam"?
Correct answer: Diplodocus

Sarah
I hit the wrong answer because apatosaurus is the same as brontosaurus. One paleontologist was faster to report then the other

Dorothy
di often means two so guessed that.

Sarah, but the term Brontosaurus (thunder lizard) is so much a better term than Apatosaurus (unreal lizard)

In his book, "Centennial," James Michener wrote a section about a female diplodocus that was fascinating. Each of his historical novels begins with the formation of the land, and comes forward through history. Each book is a natural history lesson, a tale of ancient people, and a story of how they became modern people. "Hawaii" is another good one.

Sarah, I hit the wrong answer too. I knew it was diplo but my finger had a mind of its own!

AUrelius, I've seen many alleged dinosaur fossils in museums. There are many recordings of fossil discoveries way before the 1850s. Evolution was a theory, developed in about the 1850s as you correctly state, that contributed much to understanding the existence of species found in fossils.
