What vital role in World War 2 was played by Major William Martin, Royal Marines?
Correct answer: He never existed

sunsetdb7
RegretfulHuman68, the "real" Major William Martin was a down and out by the name of Glyndwr Michael. His name is now on the headstone given to him by the Spanish. The book, "Operation Mincemeat" is well worth a read if you get a chance.

It formed the basis of another movie, Weekend at Bernie's.

? how does the flip and show exits hints benefit?

Ph1llynelson
The British didn’t “know” that the Spanish would hand over the documents. They hoped they would
and that became a whole new set of challenges. The book Operation Mincemeat is well worth the read.

susie, it doesn't really, unless you want to finish a level as quickly as possible: show the exit, next turn flip a card next to it and then you can finish the level on the next turn. Maybe there are players who like the bonus games? Personally I like four of them: Remember which of three pictures were in the previous three; find the pair of ‘snowflakes’; find the pairs and the one with two cards that can have number, shape or colour in common (which reminds me of a game called Set that's really great). The counting one is pathetic, and the bongo pattern is confusing because of the lag. Maybe that's because I'm a drummer, but I find it really off-putting. That leaves the pattern duplication game, which is OK.
Anyway, I agree that those are useless. I'm not sure if you score more for continuing a level when you've found the exit, it's how I use those cards, although I doubt it does. If it doesn't make a difference they're a waste of time.

So much for the Spanish being "neutral" then.

there is a great film depicting the event

Never send in a fictitious person to do a British WWII era soldier's job!

documentation fell into German hands and owing to Mincemeat they dismissed it saving who knows how many allied lives.
Mr Micheal served a country who had forgotten him and deserves the posthumous award.

Mr Michael died of eating food lanced with rat poison, the authorities needed a body without the rigors of war on it hence he was used, they even placed a loan statement showing him as defaulting by Lloyd's in his pocket to give the impression he was a bit of a rogue. rightly so his headstone was amended to show his true name years later. The only person op mincemeat did not fool was Goebels who being a master of propaganda I suppose meant he might see through it but Hitler being what he was disbelieved him and fell for it. interesting is how following this there were a few more incidents whereby real sementation fell into

elena58th,
You need to remember that the Spanish were ruled by Franco who had received substantial military aid from Nazi Germany during the Spanish Civil War, which the used to refine their techniques.

it's a pity that Glyndwr Michael never knew how much he helped end the war. I've watched The Man Who Never Was and the TV programme about Operation Mincemeat many times and the story is truly inspirational.

sunsetdb7, Agent Zigzag by the same author is really good too.
