I've just gone down the Wiki rabbit hole and found that "Ditherington Flax Mill, in Shrewsbury, England, is the first iron-framed building in the world, and described as 'the grandfather of skyscrapers'".

Paul Steadman, you're totally right. Lincoln Cathedral took over the world's tallest building in 1311 at 525ft, it was previously the Great Pyramid of Giza since 2570BC at 481ft.
