Which soft drink was originally marketed as a temperance drink?
Correct answer: Coca-Cola

Sophi
Years back I’ve watched the documentary about Coca-Cola and the fact that in Mexico they own the sources of the fresh water so people living there just drink coke and give it to their kids from toddlers because water is more expensive there. I’ve never touched the coke since and happy to never drink it again.

Was it the temperance drink because it actually had cocaine in it,, that is why it became so popular but the author left that out !!!

LillySparrow
Bijou, yeah addiction to Coke (cocaine “coca leaves”) is no joke

Player #120374466, Part of that is because they fear the cancer causing agents in the water. DDT was used a lot there, as were pesticides for mosquitos, and diesel fuel dumped on water to kill the larvae. Herbicides for Kudzu that takes over everything. An introduced non native plant. Tea and coffee are for energy. Most manual labor, actual hard work is done in crop growing areas. Kansas, Nebraska etc, too.
Watch Erin Brockovich movie. Every word was true, Erin is real and still fighting for clean eater, nation wide. Hinkley? The town in Erin Brockvich? Real place. And I live close to it. And 'purified' water filters on faucets cant stop a lot of those chemicals PG&E put into the water. The San Joaquin Valley is huge and grows 75% of the nations vegetables and fruit. Most use good water from canals running from the mountains. I drink that before the tap water here!

In 1914, government made law to control narcotics.

Unibelle, if they have diarrhea 4 any length of time, what's best 2 follow is the BRAT diet. B is 4 bananas, R is 4 rice, A is 4 apple/applesauce, and T is 4 toast. This is much better than giving them Coke. Fun fact: all sodas dehydrate u and aren't good 4 ur kidneys.

Terry
thank God they quit putting cocaine in it

Tom
Player #120374466, I lived in Tennessee for four years forty years ago... Jackson Tennessee... the water is undrinkable

sid
Developed before prohibition, but temperance was a big issue worldwide in a movement against alcohol. Coca Cola still contains coca leaves for flavour, but the cocaine is removed and used medically - Novocaine and other similar local anaesthetics.

Big daddy
Over 35 % of bottled water is tap water. We are destroying our planet with convenient plastic. Zero water filtration is healthier and removes the forever chemicals from tap water. I don’t sell or own their stock

Player #120374466, The Southern USA is the largest consumer of bottled water in the country. As the US is also the largest consumer in the world, that makes the South the largest consumers in the world.

Sophi, I very seen some people from the Southern USA that wouldn't drink plain water I'd you paid them. But only drink ice tea, Coke, RC cola or coffee. And yes, they give it to their young children

Duchess
I was taught that at the beginning, it contained cocaine, hence the first syllable. Not until the drugs were regulated was it removed. Since then the company has tried to distance itself from the drug association. the 'coco' referred to was made illegal and so now they don't mention what part of the coco plant it contained.

Player #24773265
Yeah, but I'm boycotting Coca-Cola
