I believe the idea of using benches and tables as primitive banks goes back to Ancient Rome. The origins of the word ‘bank’ used by the later languages can probably be found in Latin. Too bad I can’t remember my 2 years of high school Latin. Oh well, a mere 60 years since then probably is the reason I forgot my Latin.
