I saw a documentary where they believe the statues were tied on either side with ropes to teeter the stones into place...very interesting stuff

All of the Moai faced inland and away from the sea because the society that carved the Moai believed that they were the only people in the world. Therefore, any threat would come from within, and not from the sea.

In Night At The Museum, there is one Easter Island Head statue who called Ben Stiller: "Dum dum".
