What is the holy text of the Jews known as?

My favorite of the Hebrew Scriptures are Psalms. A book of meditations coming from a writer's loyal love for Jehovah God and prophesies about the coming Messiah.

Bird, as it should be. As you can attest, it does one no harm to learn about others. We need more of this. When you learn and understand it dispels the fear of "the Other." That fear is responsible for most suffering in the world.

To back up what I said below, here are some pretty devastating statistics. The rate of unwed pregnancy in the US breaks down as follows: White women--40%, Hispanic women--60%, Black women--80%, Jewish women--5%.

Excellent explanation. Thank you. I have one additional comment. The 5 books of Moses are Greek names. In Hebrew, the name of the book uses the main word of the theme of the sentence of that book. The spelling is phonetic. B,'raisheet (in the beginning). V'yishma (and listen - referring to Moses talking to Yitro.). Yeekra (and he spoke to him - God is talking to Moses). Bahmidbar (in the desert) . D'vareem (the words Moses used - to speak to the israelites before entering israel)
