FOR THE RECORD: This man did as much or more for "his" people (they're just people) as Martin Luther King Jr. did. He couldn't march down the street "preaching" but he found ways all the time. Everybody is "entitled" to their opinions but it's disrespectful to pull away from that knowledge with political comments that bear no meaning.

Player #mimi2157, as a Black woman, I strongly disagree with you. Obama didn't say or do anything to turn me away from Christianity towards the Muslim religion. I'd have him back as President in a heartbeat especially if it meant getting rid of 45!

I just read that in 1892 he created rental units for black folks in Baltimore. He was like the opposite of Trump!

Love this man, read his first autobiography and am now reading a biography of his amazing life. I'm from Rochester NY where he settled and published his newspaper, The North Star and now I live on FD Blvd in NYC. Because of what he made of his life and the causes that he worked for, the people of America owe a great deal to Frederick Douglass.

I can't imagine what he had to endure in a time where greatness was an unknown word in relation to negros. Also, to live to be over 70 years with those kind of views were risky & unthinkable.

I am still waiting for a major motion picture of his life to be done with Morgan Freeman to play him in the older stages of life and I remember what a great job Levar Burton did playing Kunta Kinte in the original Roots. I think his speeches were awesome !!
