A simple chemical reaction will release oxygen and recover the iron from the iron oxide. Obviously this is one of the best ideas toward making Mars habitable because the iron will useful. Another plan is to intentionally produce smog so that infrared radiation from the Sun would be kept in the atmosphere, thus warming the planet.
