lisa, I agree my mom suffered with this disease and as a caregiver it was very upsetting but I never let her see me cry. she lived to the ripe old age of 93.

lisa, Yes, it is very disconcerting to watch a loved one's mental stability decline to the point of infancy.

I thought Alzheimer's WAS a form of dementia, rather than a cause of dementia???

AUrelius, my doc said that's been proven wrong. But it doesn't hurt to keep cholesterol under control. And keep exercising ur brain as best u can.

This decline is hard on everyone who has a family member with the disease. But you keep you head up and keep on going., Think of the wonderful lives they had before the disease ..and now think of all the who you lose early in your life. Be grateful for the years they were healthy.. never feel guilty about it . Your family member wants you to life your life and be happy.

I thought that Alzhiemers was a more advanced level of dementia. Not the cause of dementia.

All I know is that it took bits of my mum day by day for years and we never realised until she was diagnosed in 2023 and yet symptoms, bad language, lack of motivation, lack of eating looking back were signs going back at least 4 years. It devastated us to see her this way, she was so angry with us and world and sad as she couldn't understand why she couldn't drive or live at home anymore.... my mum died last month. Were all still devastating at her loss. Dreadful disease for all involved. Sorry for essay

Dementia is NOT caused by Alzheimer's. As a matter of fact, no single cause of dementia (of which Alzheimer's is a form) has as yet been established.
