What a glorious creature, have not seen any mention of it on any natural history programme, but it sounds as if it could be tricky to film.

Like a parrot, a tarantula is a pretty long term commitment. Males can live up to ten years, and females have lived past twenty years. New World tarantulas have urticating hairs on their abdomens. (Itchy skin, in medical terms, is called urticaria.) When threatened, the spiders rub their abdomens with a leg and send the hairs at predators. The hairs are barbed and are extremely dangerous if gotten in the eyes.
