As of 2024, the world's hottest pepper is Pepper X, grown by Ed Currie of the PuckerButt Pepper Company in South Carolina. Pepper X unseated the Caroline Reaper (also created by Currie) in October 2023 and now holds the Guinness World Record title as Hottest Pepper in the World. Pepper X weighs-in with just under 2.7 million Scoville Heat Units. In comparison, the familiar jalapeño usually measures between 4,000 and 8,500 units on the Scoville scale.

I love spicy food. But can't see the point of these red-hot chillis, apart from breaking records.

Jalapeño peppers are too spicy for me. Can’t imagine how hot Pepper X is. Can anyone eat pepper X?
