Can’t say I agree with your assessment of Michael Connelly , and I think that James Patterson has so many co- authors that you are unlikely to have done much of an in depth study.
I will be looking out for Arthur Cannon Doyle .

As a devoted reader of Agatha Christie, Ngiao Marsh, Dorothy L. Sayers, E. Phillips Oppenheim, Edgar Wallace, Mary Roberts Rhinehart, Marjorie Allingham, Arthur Cannon Doyle, Erle Der Biggers and a multitude of fine, older authors I thought I'd try 2 famous,wealthy contemporary writers. As mysteries are my first choice, I purchased 1 of James Patterson's and 1 of Michael Connelly's books.
Full of vile language and gratuitous sex, hollow characters and (as far as I got...which wasn't far) thin storyline. Tossed both books.
