Never been to the Sahara, but I've been to the Mojave training at FT IRWIN CALIFORNIA. 100degrees in the shade is no myth. I've heard there is a very valid evidence that the Mojave is the hottest, not the biggest, but definitely the hottest. I would question the answer to this question. I know a lot of soldiers past an present stationed there, along with the people that live in that area, would also argue that the Mojave is the hottest. That statistical data is there
