What does the 'shish' in a shish kebab refer to?

kebab is now popular everywhere in the Phils.

I've never really thought of Shish in Shish Kabab

Terry , not for nothing but sushi isn't usually grilled and is rarely on a stick too all good nonetheless

The tastiest and original variants of kebab you can eat only in Azerbaijan. Only in shish we cook. Others we can't accept as kebab.

I like shusi but never thought of it as a kabob

Things can be grilled without a skewer, so having a skewer different enough for it to be special to me.
