GordonPasha, Are there detailed detailed descriptions of specific buildings or landscapes in the plays ? No . The very point you make is how he could write these plays . His audience also did not travel . So if Shakespeare called his play the Merchant of Venice his audience understood the action takes place in Venice . He doesn’t describe the Doges Palace or the Ponte Vecchio because he doesn’t need to . The same with The Merry Wives of Windsor . Many of his audience at the Globe Theatre in East London would not even have traveled that far. And he would have read or heard travellers tales .
