Giggle pig, it’s not an American thing, it’s a language thing. Austria is Austria in Italian and Spanish, and has a different word in French, Czech, etc.

I don’t know why we in America insist on calling a country different from that which it is called in their own language. (I probably could’ve said that better), but for example Deutschland/Germany. Why don’t we call it Deutschland?
