Where is one standing if he or she is standing before the Brandenburg Gate?

nimblemoon, I care! You got to go where I dream of going, but will probably never get to. I always am intrigued by seeing history. I read about places in Europe, but never got there. I live vicariously through people like you.

nimblemoon, being able to walk through the gate and continue to walk along Unter-den-Linden meant so much to me, after serving in Germany before the wall was taken down by German patriots.

I have been living in Berlin since 1966. That were some remarkable and exciting decades, rest assured. Come and see for yourselves, you'll love it.

Kaiser Frederick was the leader of Germany for only less than a year due to throat cancer. His wife was the daughter and first-born of Britain's Queen Victoria. Well educated, she knew several languages fluently, and was devoted to her husband. They were both working to modernize Germany in order to give the people more of a say in government. After his death, his son became Kaiser Wilhelm II, and rejecting his mother's guidance, banned her from his palace. Wilhelm took Germany into WWI, which ushered in WWII.

Heartland Old Guy, highly recommend to you to see some bits of Europe. Try Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Slovakia or Croatia, you will not regret.

Heartland Old Guy, I was there when the wall was still up .We had to wear our no 1 uniform when visiting East Berlin. Very interesting city .Loved it

I've been to Germany 🇩🇪 several times. Also to Berlin and saw this wonderful structure. Love all Eastern European countries

I've been to many places in Germany, Berlin three times. The visits are part of belonging to a German conversation group. When there, people are surprised that a group of English tourists all speak their language, though one friend is German and likes to have people think she's English and compliment her on her "Perfekt Deutsch"!

I visited in 1987 on way to Poland. Well worth the hassle of the many checkpoints.

Berlin is one of my favorite cities in the world. I would move there in a heartbeat. What brought me there my first time was art. Nothing like a beer in Berlin!❤
