My heart goes out to all the survivors of disasters both in the US (including our territories) and abroad... I've been there and trying to pick up those pieces again after losing everything (especially if that includes loved ones)... is one of the hardest things in the world to do. You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other, taking one little step at a time, even when you don't think you can... and eventually you look back and realize somehow you've made your way through.

Regrettably this question is and will be an ever changing question seeing as both the one to hit Houston and the most recent one to hit the Florida panhandle have surpassed New Orleans. With climate change and other factors, I fear this will be a great question to keep if someone either rewrote it for the answers given or it will need regular updating as it continues to have ever increasing and more destructive disasters!

I worked at a Jewish agency during Hurricane Katrina and I was so appalled at the fact that they were denying assistance to all non-Jews. It was the most despicable thing I'd ever heard or seen a non-profit do. Thank God for all of the agencies who were NOT hand-picking who was worthy of help.
