My father was in an engineer unit and fought in that battle. He would never talk about it to us kids. My uncle said that Dad fought in some hellish battles. I believe Dad suffered PTSD. Unfortunately there was no treatment so many men self medicated with alcohol. Eventually, with the help of God, Dad escaped that nightmare.

My father fought in the Battle of the Bulge was captured and held in Stalag 9-b. If you are into historical events please look up that prison camp. It was the second worst prison camp in Germany for Allied prisoners. My dad was starved to within an inch of his life.

My Uncle Jack was in the Battle of the Bulge. He, like my father, didn’t talk about the war much. I do know that his unit was more or less wiped out and he somehow survived hiding, and wounded in the forest until the German’s moved on.

lulu53, my dad also fought in WWII but I think he was wounded and sent home be for e the battle of the bulge. I also believe he had PTSD. He would never talk about the things that happened either. I learned through books, movies, (“Saving Private Ryan “ actually has a scene in it that was one of the few stories he told us .)

My Dad fought there also. So many of those soldiers were murdered. He was captured and was listed as POW/MIA. He was 6' tall and weighed less than 100lbs when he was found. Those men were amazing! PTSD had to be affecting him. How he managed to raise me and my two brothers is truly miraculous.
