Great book, the first chapter is only time I've ever read something and had to pause to just get my breath back and take a moment to admire what I just read.

I used to teach this novel to non-native English speakers and thanks to it I managed to make students love literature. The love and sacrifice, the war and consequences and chaos it usually brings along, the kids really loved it and were really moved by it. It’s 25 ys later and they still share memories about this particular novel with me.

Since it took place during the French revolution ,I would say it was the worst of times. The aristocrats were being arrested and guillotine. How horrible.
