How shameful she had to go to France to learn to fly. Iron determination and bravery were her trademark.

GnarlySpringHer28
Typical. US wouldn't support her. Bravo Bessie!!!

Hoplea
What a good example of never giving up. Bravo!

im1rarebird
FunkyMonkey, racism still exists in the United States and it's seems like the country is reverting to how it was in the 1920's

basigof7
Shame. I never heard of her. Great she didn’t give up. Everyone must know that when you want something you can’t give up. Race creed or religion should not matter. Just do it

Junie1957
she proved that no obstacle can stand in your way with determination. where there's a will, there's always a way!

MR.ADM

Player #2386701
Sad to say she did not live long. She died doing a stunt. But she taught a lot of others to fly before she died.

Never give up you dreams

There should be a movie about her so more people know what happened and what she faced at that time. I think she was a very courageous individual…

Annie
im1rarebird, sadly yes.

Chezikeets,
with the harsh Jim Crow laws during the early 20th century a lot of black people left America to have the same kind of equality as white ppl in Europe especially after the ww1 when black soldiers were able to have the same equality as a white person back in the US they decided to stay instead of coming back home to face segregation and other Jim Crow laws

Allegra
Mañaco in Minnesota, I’m Afro Cuban too, you are so right!!

Player #120374466, WHAT?!?! REVERSE racism. I get it. When all else fails… play the “victim”.

CAREERENDER
the death of Bessie Coleman occurred in 1926 before she could open a flying school for the Black community! Strange how a wrench was found in her airplane's motor and she was thrown from the seat of her plane! 🤔🤔🤔

CAREERENDER
Player #120374466, how can you have reverse racism when you control everything? 🤔 Whytes own the corporations, run the government, control immigration, control law enforcement. control who can receive a pilots license and teach at every academic level! Nice try! Perhaps, should ask a Whyte politician why this is!

mush
she was born in my home town, Atlanta, TX

Mom mom Cindy
why is the year not given?

Player #120374466

Player #11503902, I don’t think he does.He was a great President!

There is an excellent book from Connie Platz telling the awesome story of Bessie! The color blindness angle is not good as it prevents you from seeing that person. I am glad u cud at least be a friend but a true friend will stand up for u. We should learn of each other's differences and further our understanding and help those in need. We can all do our own part to stop racism and have equality across the board with no unfair advantages/privileges. More wealth does not make you better or more deserving. Challenge you!

Gerald
There is even a US stamp commemorating this woman.

JewelsR4ever
Happy to see this question!!

Chezikeets, determination and courage. Is all you need to get where you want to go in life!

Vicki
Does anyone know the year(s) that this occurred? This game is awesome, but I think sometimes the answers aren't as complete as they could be.

Player #42040033
Would make a great movie! And we need to see more women like this be acknowledged - and when they’re alive!

Mono
A date of the event would be nice.

Player #35435475
Chezikeets, this was the case for a lot of black people at this time. Josephine Baker did, Billie Holiday spent time and Europe and wanted to stay because they were so much more respectful and open there
