I like the phrase old BF was a wise man

Dorothy, Actually read the explanation, he was quoting an anonymous old manuscript. He had a right to his opinion, but no research or expertise was behind it.

This phrase has always utterly infuriated me. There is no discernable benefit to going to bed and rising early. All that matters is length and quality of sleep. Yet somehow it gets mixed up with " virtue" and the " night owls" with sin, and decadence.
Like countless others I was born late at night, and ( by coincidence?) I am at my mental best in the early hours ( 12 - 5). That time is reserved for any important or challenging thinking or work. I just wish BF kept his opinions to himself. I am sick of the phrase, sick of disapproval, sick of having to explain myself to those who think they have a right to preach to me about my personal preference.

BENJAMIN Franklin. made up that saying.

Falastini!!
Gerald &Estie Anderson, 😂

TRUE CANADIAN Laurel, The information states 1486 is when it was first published, way before your publication of 1639. The information also only states that BF is the person most associated with the phrase; not that he claimed the phrase was his own. Please read carefully before criticizing. Thank You.
