What place holds the record for the highest recorded temperature?
Correct answer: Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California, USA
Montana Lady
rsgf01313, the record used to be said to be in northern Africa... maybe Libya? ...but that was invalidated by Guinness because it had been taken over asphalt and was not the ambient air temperature, so the Death Valley record replaced it.

I went to Death Valley a few times for hot weather testing with a group of engineers. The hottest day we experience was 127! I've seen high teens in Vegas a few times but for every degree above 120 discomfort seems exponential.

Been there , in the summer with no AC . Think of burn in hell , & there you are . It's hard to breathe , it's like all the oxcygen has been sucked out of the air .

I live in Florida and it doesn't get quite that hot but with the humidity, it's so uncomfortable and I'm a native Floridian!!

Montana Lady, I heard death valley had the highest temperature when I was 20 years old that was in 1982 and I knew about it before that I was told that is was the hottest place on Earth when I was a kid

I love Death Valley!
In my younger days, I used to go hiking and camping throughout the region, and lived off the land for weeks at a time!
Brutally unforgiving country, but absolutely beautiful and quiet!
Some amazing things to be seen out there!
The Race Track and Salt Bench are amazing!
The cliffs around it have fossils of ancient marine life in them!
It's not uncommon to see life and death in nature play out in the desert also!
Some of the Cacti grow 60 feet or taller, and you can survive, even thrive, by using the cactus and surrounding plant life!

I didn't know about this

It’s a popular place in the winter!

Player #1853334, it would be worse if it was humid. I lived in Puerto Rico and didn't have an A/C and was miserable. I lived in Gitmo on the desert side of the island and didn't have an A/C and I had no problem! That said I would not make it out west at those temps for 2 reasons it's too blasted hot and because I'm on a couple different meds that would make me too hot and possibly have a heat stroke. I'll stay in Alabama and deal with high 90's during the summer and some times over 100 with heat index the humidity does make it hard to breathe sometimes.

Kuwait also has high temperatures, the summers here are blistering hot. it has gotten up to 130°F. daily during July and August, the Temps rise to over 100°F and above up to sometimes 120°F.

The question says Greenland Ranch but the description says Furnace Creek Ranch. Which is it?

hvnfun, I don't understand what CC is all about since the climate has ALWAYS changed. And we still don't know the extent that humans have had. Seems to me not much cuz look at the climate 1000's of years ago when we weren't here..

GrandmaTanya, I live in the U.K. where our warmest recorded temperature was around 31.1 oC, and that was far too hot for me, especially to work in, lol.

It gets very hot in Australia in the Pilbara region. Marble bar has the record for most consecutive days above 40 degrees but I believe it is a place in South Australia that holds the record for hottest day which was about 57 degrees or so. But anything over 50 degrees is bloody hot no matter which way you look at it.
Player #20165352
skipozzzz, yes can get very hot here.

its amazing that we know the earth is not a perfect world as it being depicted. it also amazing that science is the gatekeeper to our existing. but we as human beings must change our old habits or we will be living just like those p!aces all over the world.
