wayner88, just like Romans were once trying to dominate the known world, the Greeks before that. then we had "colonization" just a few centuries ago, where the natives were expelled or humbled. then came the world wars and on and on it goes. it's always been this way. "Ravaging" is not something that's only been done by Muslims. powerful countries/people always seek to dominate.

Do you know why is called Istanbul in the modern era? "Constantinopole" means the city of Constantinos The Great (city's founder) from his name and the Greek Word πόλις (polis). For the Byzantines and the Greek the people was the greatest city ever built in world, so when referring to it, they just called it Poli. In an older version of Greek Language, "Εις την Πόλιν" (es tin poli) means "to the City". The Turks mishearing started calling Instabul.

John Wick, not unlawfully converted. btw, if the Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan did not supported the building and restored back in 1500’s there will be no Haghia Sophia today, it would collapse

Only Two empires ruled the land. The Byzantines who build the city from scratch about 300 AD and raised it to be the most important city of Europe for centuries, and the Turks who concurred it in 1453 AD after almost 7 centuries of attempts.
