maijla, a time before cell phones, there use to be public phones, just about everywhere, gas stations, street corners , inside stores etc. When I was young in the 1960’s and 1970’s a local phone call was only a dime.

the NJ parkway rest stops use to charge a dime to unlock the cubicle door. we were poor, crawled under than state abolished the practice. FYI

DeHope1818, when I was a kid in the sixties, my mom and I would take a bus to visit my dad's folks the station would charge a dime. I'd crawl under when I was alone and buy a treat with the dime. I still laugh about it. I didn't think it was right to charge .

How do you figure that a dime is thinner that a dollar? unless you are talking about all being coins, if so you need to make that clearer.
