Yes, American -but I understand how Poe, perhaps, seems British, because he wrote in the Victorian period. He lived in Baltimore, Maryland and had a tragic life. His work and life are celebrated in Baltimore. One of Poe's most famous stories, "The Raven" is the reason the NFL team from Baltimore is called the Ravens.

But if we stole their Colts and they had no team, where did the Ravens come from? Kidding, sports can be cruel and they choose wisely for their team name. Poe was a crazy genius.

As a Baltimorean (born, raised & still reside), I'm just a tad bit embarrassed that I didn't know this about Poe. I studied about him in high school, visited his memorial and read almost all of his works. Maybe, I read it YEARS AGO and just don't remember it. 🤷🏽♀️

Baltimore is my home town born and grew up here.. E.A.Poe gravesite is in Downtown Baltimore 1 of his houses is in Baltimore the other is in Richmond VA. he had dou residence in both states.
