IRENE, Amadeus was not a work about Mozart, that was the setting. The story is about an artist arguing with God. This is an idea of the question: "I am a good and hard working artist, and yet you give divine talent to this moral and frivolous reprobate... how is this fair?" It is more generally a statement of how unjust the distribution of talent is. There is no correlation between good/bad and talent, luck, wealth. It could be rewritten today with a footballer as the Mozart.
