There are different and varying shades of white.
Correct answer: True

Tami Sue Miles-Banda
I have to disagree with this one. The only true shade of white is white. A legitimately white surface reflects all light completely and is characterized by the utter absence of any hue. Anything that doesn't reflect all light of all hues is not truly white. The examples of shades of white listed in the explanation are actually shades of gray, not white. This is even stated in the explanation, creating a significant internal contradiction. With all due respect, the answer should be "False."

Boxxxie
White is, by definition, achromatic ie without colour. To be off-white you have to add another colour thus can no longer be achromatic. White is only white: anything else is a very light shade of another colour.

It even says that strictly speaking shades of white are grey. Therefore the answer should be false!

InfiniteCorsair46310
White is when all the colours of the visible spectrum are reflected by the surface of an object. Anything other than white is not white, but very very light shades of other colours

my daughter taught me the colors I see may not be the color I think I see.

Edwardsausagefingers
Boxxxie, I agree absolutely. It’s white or another colour. Cream is not white it’s cream by adding other colours

People are freaking out about the definition of "white". However, none of them have considered the definition of "shade" which in art terminology means to add black (also not a color) to something. Therefore, every pure gray you see is "shade of white" and NOT a color at all.

venusH20, Black is a color!

DoctorAnn2000
SilverSprite2697, i thought that in paints or dyes, black was the combination of all colors and white was no color; while in rays of light, black is no light/no color and white is all colors. am i wrong?

Player #620415
scientifically there is but one shade of white and its white. just because dulux sell apple white does not change this fact.

Nwoods93
This question is nonsense.

Igorek14000

not only is "off-white" a lighter shade of a different color, "white" in itself is not a color, rather it's a lack there of. !!!

any shade of colors that looks similar to white is not white, just a very light shade of whatever color it is diluted with.

whatthecuss67
i'm guessing these get harder. true or false?

Atti2205
Off-white is NOT white. Hence the name "off"

SilverAlliance428
Off white is not technically white. It would become a very light shade of another colour!

JSECBX21💀💙
ITS FALSE, WHITE IS WHITE, OR ELSE ITS NOT WHITE ITS OFF WHITE, AND NO LONGER WHITE!!

ryanspillers78
