What was the first name of Field Marshal Montgomery?

My Father served under "Monty" in the desert and into Italy with the 8th Army. He hated war but was always had a good word for Monty and how he looked after the troops and turned things around after the disaster of Tobruk

Nobby , My dad was one of the " Rats of Tobruk" He was very badly wounded in the desert and taken prisoner, but well treated in a German field hospital. When he was eventually repatriated back home to England, 24 bullet holes were found in his uniform. 12 machine gun bullets went right through him, including one through his chest. It was a miracle that he survived.

Nobby , my grandfather was in Italy too, killed in the 4th battle. The Italian Campaign was awful.
