In poker what is known as the dead man's hand?
Correct answer: Black aces and black eights

SLB1962, Nope, it's two pairs, aces over eights, as described. However, this is the first time I've heard that they are all supposed to be black.

Just read about this in a mystery, fiction book. Also read about it last night after a Jeopardy question about Wild Bill. It pays to read!

BeamerDownUnder, Agreed, it's unknown what colour they are
Sgt Mad Dog
BeamerDownUnder, Yeah, I always thought it was aces and eights no matter what color!

Went to a reenactment of Wild Bill's murder in Deadwood, SD a few years ago...they had him holding black aces and black eights. So, IMO, this is correct.

BeamerDownUnder, I thought the eights were red. And I never heard about it varyingvthrough the cages. I have always read that it originated with Hickock, and nothing alleged about it.
