Mahler was an amazing composer. Born a German Jew in what is now the Czech Republic, Mahler grewupthe "hated of the hated," so to speak--the Czechs despised the Germans, and we all know how the Germans felt about the Jews. His second symphony--the Resurrection--was composed for his brother, who committed suicide when Gustav converted to Catholicism.
