Player #1907277, the only egregious omission from his splendid resume is president. Alas, he was just too old.

Angel Smith, OK AngelSmith didn't you people would have read it the first time??? Yes my grandfather and grandmother both used the Almanac for planting certain things. My grandfather would order seeds, seedlings and potato eyes from the company the Almanac said to use the tomatoes he would bring over were huge and to this very day we are unable to grow them like my grandfather did. Or grow the cherry tree that had five different types of cherries on it he bought it from a gardening magazine that sold different types of seeds and trees.

I bet few know that Franklin was considered a run away slave. He was an indentured servant belong to his older brother in Boston and ran away to Philadelphia as a boy.

I'm a little surprised at how much people love him. He absolutely created some things, but most were stolen from lesser inventors. And he left his wife - no divorce, of course, and lived with another woman, but couldn't be faithful to her. His maids had to adapt to seeing him naked all the time because he believed in air-baths. Keep in mind the time period. Young women, even maids, were not brought up to see a man in his birthday suit.

He was such a loved person. To think he quit school at 10 to work with his brother .. he self taught himself on so much.. he was so popular all over the world..

Today, The Farmer's Almanac continues in the same tradition. I bought a copy in 2022 and it was full of interesting articles, planting guides, recipes, etc.

Maestra, You're right. And if the answer isn't Ben Franklin, it's probably Teddy Roosevelt. They don't make men like them anymore...

Tony
Franklin went about trying to convince people of the value of his lightening rod invention. Churches, with there high steeples were in danger of being struck.
Please note that the following remark is not to disparage faith.
Some of the pastors or ministers declined the rods saying that God would not allow their church to be hit by lightening. Several burned churches later, they all adopted this pragmatic device.
